Notes for Charlotte Swenson
Name given as Lottie Swenson;8
“[Hannibal Hamlin} Former Maine governor, U.S. Senator, and Abraham Lincoln's 1st Vice President. Retired to Bangor and supported the establishment of the Swedish Colony at New Sweden. Employed Swedish immigrant girls as house servants, including Lotte Svenson, who was working there when she met Peter Sodergren of Monson, Maine. “ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28595539@N06/2666908556)

“Peter had a job in a slate quarry in Monson, Maine. The area has several quarries even now, though the demand for slate is not especially high. He apparently worked there in the 1880s, possibly as an operator of an elevator or conveyor, rather than as a slate cutter, though he may have done that for a while. He saved his money scrupulously, met Lotte Svenson of Bangor, and they married. They made Monson their home, and their daughters, Mary and Flavia, were born here. “ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28595539@N06/2666881840/)
